Kidney Transplant

Living With Kidney Failure

For the past three years, dialysis has been a constant part of my daily life.
Through this season, the care team at DaVita has helped carry me physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

My first peritoneal dialysis nurse, Tammy, made an overwhelming process feel manageable. Her compassion, patience, and encouragement helped me learn how to live again in the middle of uncertainty. When she moved on, her replacement—also named Tammy—continued that same level of care and dedication. Moments like these remind me that medicine is not only about treatment… it is about people.

A Doctor Who Truly Cares

My nephrologist, Dr. Patricia Khalil, represents everything the care part of health care should be.
Her knowledge, calm presence, and genuine concern for my well-being have made an immeasurable difference in this journey. In seasons filled with unknowns, having a physician you trust brings peace that goes far beyond medical treatment.

The Road to the Transplant List

Thanks to the incredible team at Allegheny Health Network, I was able to complete the extensive testing required for transplant listing at their state-of-the-art Wexford Hospital.
That milestone was more than a medical step—it was a moment of hope.

Today, I remain active on the transplant list, waiting for the call that could change everything.

The Physical, Spiritual, and Emotional Battle

Kidney failure is not only a physical struggle.
It is also a spiritual and emotional journey that reshapes how you see time, faith, family, and purpose.

  • Physically, dialysis demands discipline, endurance, and strength.
  • Emotionally, the waiting can be the hardest part—living between gratitude for today and hope for tomorrow.
  • Spiritually, this journey has deepened my faith and reminded me that even in weakness, there is purpose.

Through every challenge, I continue to believe that this story is still being written.

Looking Ahead With Hope

While I wait for a transplant, I remain focused on faith, family, and the work still in front of me.
This season has taught me that even in the hardest battles, hope is never wasted.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
