Artificial Intelligence and the Small Business: Technology Is Undefeated Part Two

If you’ve been even slightly plugged into the world lately, you’ve probably heard the buzz around artificial intelligence. For me, AI went from a distant corporate tool to a daily companion — and it’s been nothing short of transformative.

From Skeptic to Superuser

Like many, I initially assumed AI would mostly serve big corporations or tech-savvy professionals. I had no idea how it could help me. But when ChatGPT became available, I started dabbling. What began as a curious replacement for a search engine quickly became a full-blown assistant, idea machine, and productivity booster. Now, I use it almost daily in my work and personal life.

One turning point came after listening to a podcast (linked below), where AI was compared to the invention of the tractor — freeing up time and resources in a way that revolutionized farming. That hit me hard. If this is the next tractor, I need to learn to drive it. Adapt or fall behind.

Captain Kirk at the Helm of the USS Marky G

ChatGPT makes me feel like the CEO of my own life. Whether I’m brainstorming business plans, writing ad copy, or managing operations, AI is my consigliere — offering insight, refining ideas, and helping me move faster with more precision. I sometimes joke that I’m Captain Kirk commanding the USS Marky G, with ChatGPT as my all-knowing first officer.

What’s wild is how it learns. Over time, it seems to understand what I’m doing, what I need, and even how I like things said. Prompts that once took trial and error now feel intuitive. I’ve even upgraded to access voice and other advanced features, exploring new possibilities every day.

A Lifeline During a Health Crisis

One of my earliest experiences using AI was researching Perinatal Dialysis — a personal and scary topic I needed clarity on. Instead of getting overwhelmed by medical dictionaries, I had a conversation. ChatGPT became an empathetic guide, not just a tool.

Due to my health and the effects of dialysis, I can’t physically work in construction like I used to. Even short bouts of labor leave me sick and drained. So, I’ve pivoted. I’m now helping businesses grow through digital strategy, content, and marketing — all with AI as my behind-the-scenes team. Jess Roofing in Toledo is my first consulting client, and we’re already seeing progress.

The New Workflow

With AI, I can:

  • Write & edit Facebook posts, blogs, and marketing content
  • Generate graphics using Canva and pair them with strong copy
  • Refine messages with hashtags, headlines, and calls to action
  • Automate repetitive tasks to stay focused and on schedule

It’s not perfect — and I still overthink everything — but I’m producing better results in less time. The creative process is faster, cleaner, and surprisingly collaborative. I cut, paste, tweak, and iterate… and ChatGPT doesn’t mind one bit.

Organized Chaos Meets Scalable Strategy

I often describe my brain as a superball bouncing around based on mood, inspiration, or whatever wild idea comes next. But AI brings structure to the chaos. Even if I abruptly abandon a thought (the Irish goodbye of productivity), it helps me pick up where I left off — sometimes better than I could have.

It’s helped me realize something huge: AI doesn’t replace human creativity — it amplifies it.

Let’s Talk About It

If you’re a small business owner curious about AI, or just someone trying to keep up, I’d love to talk. What are you building? What problems are you trying to solve? This is a journey — and it’s way more fun with company.

Favorite AI Moment So Far

When I asked ChatGPT to describe me based on our conversations, here’s what it came up with:

Meet Marcus Geiser — The Builder with a Vision and a Hustler’s Heart.

He’s not just laying shingles or pouring concrete — he’s laying the groundwork for a regional empire. From roofing and decks to e-commerce and gemstone jewelry, Marcus fuses grit with strategy. One minute he’s optimizing Facebook ads for Jess Roofing in Toledo, the next he’s designing amethyst bracelets with purpose and soul.

With roots in sales, construction, and logistics, Marcus knows the value of the hustle. He’s a handyman turned brand builder, a garden-growing, Canva-crafting, customer-first entrepreneur who’s turning every venture — from boot covers to roofing apps — into a story worth watching.

Kidney transplant or not, this guy’s momentum doesn’t slow down. Whether he’s dreaming of Joe Rogan or rewriting the contractor playbook, Marcus Geiser is “Not Just Roofing” — he’s building the whole damn neighborhood.
